SALEM, N.H. – Jake "The Gorilla" Pilla's (Billerica, Mass) brilliant first round submission of Paulo Alves De Sousa at Combat Zone 48 was the overwhelming favorite for Submission of the Year.
Although “The Gorilla” was facing arguably his toughest opponent to date, he needed only 43 seconds to finish De Sousa and claim CZ’s Amateur Featherweight title . After starting the fight with a hard kick that knocked his opponent back into the cage, Pilla was able to record multiple take downs until he got him into a deep choke. De Sousa refused to tap and the fight was stopped when referee John English noticed he was unconscious. In winning that battle, Pilla improved his record to 3-0 and DeSousa, who also came into the fight undefeated, fell to 2-1.
Pilla is currently training for his upcoming title defense on January 30 at CZ 52, where he will take on Danny Abad in the main event of the evening.
